Wisdom teeth are a person's last two teeth, which usually appear in the early adult years. Located in the rear areas of both arches, wisdom teeth, or third molars, commonly lack adequate room to completely emerge and are difficult to keep clean. They typically require extraction to maintain overall oral wellness. Wisdom teeth might be impacted (stuck beneath the gum tissues or bone), poorly aligned, or not able to develop as they should, resulting in many dental disorders. Dr. Husam Elias provides third molar removals for Sherman Oaks, CA patients to enhance oral health and defend against jaw pain and deterioration. If you or a member of your family have painful or ingrown wisdom teeth, schedule an appointment at Southern California Center for Surgical Arts to learn about your treatment options.

Southern California Center for Surgical Arts performs third molar removals while the patient is under local anesthesia, but this surgery may also be paired with oral-conscious or IV sedation techniques to improve comfort. Most cases of wisdom teeth removal call for an excision approach, most notably if the teeth are impacted, have arched roots, or are firmly attached to the bone. When Dr. Elias makes an opening in the gum tissues to get to the tooth, he may section it into parts, which allows for easier removal. Depending on your personal needs, each of the wisdom teeth could be removed during the same session. Stitches are placed to close off the extraction sites and promote the recovery period. Our incredibly experienced team will supply you with post-treatment instructions to adhere to during the next several days.

Patients who require other forms of sedation to stay comfortable during their session will need to bring a responsible adult to take them home. During the initial several days after the procedure, it's crucial to restrict spitting, sipping using a straw, choosing hot or cold foods and drinks, and to stop smoking and vaping. These activities will likely pull out the blood clot at the removal location and cause an issue called "dry socket." It is expected to notice jaw swelling and pain following third molar extractions, which can be lessened with prescription or drugstore pain relievers and cold compresses held to the face. Our dental professionals will provide you with instructions to allow you to take care of your gums while you heal and arrange a follow-up visit to monitor your surgical sites as they heal.

My experience with this office was absolutely stellar. Firstly, the staff welcomes you warmly when you arrive. Diana (doctor’s assistant) met me in the exam room.  Diana has a way of instantly making you feel comfortable and any nervousness you may be feeling is dissipated.... Because you can’t stop laughing. Then enters Dr. Elias.... He is extremely approachable, honest, and knowledgeable. It doesn’t hurt that he has multiple degrees. I am ecstatic that I found this business:

Dr. Elias pulled my wisdom teeth out like they called his mamma fat or something! Surgery was quick and basically painless. Didn’t need any of the pain meds and was back at work two days later looking like a snack. Diane was the nurse that took care of me for most of the process and she was so wonderful, kind, funny and sweet. If my wisdom teeth every grow back, I will definitely be coming back to Dr. Elias immediately. Thank you!
